What and Why?
Presently, I have started studying for the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). After searching across many forums and message boards, I have determined that without a strong understanding of networking, you will not make it in cybersecurity. It also provides a strong basis to build on when designing cloud architectures. All cloud service providers still follow the basic networking frameworks that have been implemented for years.
The CCNA is relevant to cloud networking in that it tests the understanding of network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automation. While each cloud service provider may have its way of deploying and managing networks, they still all are built on the same principles. The skills obtained through achieving the CCNA are valuable for understanding the underlying networking principles that are essential for cloud networking. Beyond the CCNA, Cisco also offers the CCNA Cloud certification that focuses even further on cloud-centric networking.
After achieving this goal, I will become more marketable in today’s market. From what I have seen, there are tons and tons of young professionals hitting the workforce who are interested in the flashy domains of IT like cybersecurity, cloud computing, data science, and AI. I have gleaned that the more senior IT professionals are noting that a lot of these green professionals are missing the fundamentals. The CCNA will sure up my networking understanding in theory and, in practice, my experience at an MSP continues to provide the real-world dealings to comprehend the the business impact of networking management.
